Shapefront — Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 17, 2026 Last updated: October 5, 2026 Version: 2.2
The short version
- Playing single-player is local. If you just play the campaign without signing in, your progress, strategies, and settings live in your own browser and are never sent to us.
- We count how the Game is played, anonymously. Which screens are opened, battles fought and won, and similar game events go to our own analytics server, with no cookies, no account id and no IP address stored. Errors in the Game are reported the same way (see §2.4).
- Signing in for multiplayer creates an account. When you sign in, we collect and store your email address and a Firebase user ID, and we store your game progress on our server (a Postgres database on our hosting provider, located in the United States) keyed to that ID.
- We show ads to keep the game free. Ads are served by Google, which uses cookies to serve them. You choose between personalized and non-personalized ads, and you can opt out of the "sale/sharing" of personal information (see §5 and §7).
- You can delete your account and all its data at any time by emailing us (see §6).
This policy explains the details.
1. Who we are
Shapefront ("the Game") is operated by Bitlitic LLC ("we", "us", the "Developer"), the data controller for the account and gameplay data described below. Contact: support@bitlitic.com. We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer or an EU/UK representative; please direct any privacy request to the contact email above.
2. Data we process
2.1 If you do NOT sign in (single-player)
The Game saves your progress, authored strategies, and settings locally in your own browser (IndexedDB / local storage). This data does not leave your device, is not accessible to us, and is deleted when you clear your browser's site data. We do not operate accounts for players who never sign in. The only data we receive from them is the anonymous usage statistics and error reports described in §2.4.
2.2 If you sign in (multiplayer / cloud save)
Signing in is an affirmative act that creates an account. Once you sign in, we collect and store:
- Email address — provided through your sign-in method, used to identify your account, for account recovery, and for service messages.
- Firebase user ID (uid) — a stable identifier issued by Google Firebase Authentication that is the primary key of your account.
- Authentication metadata — your sign-in provider (e.g.,
google.comor email/password), whether your email is verified, and account created/last-seen timestamps. - Display name — a leaderboard handle, if you set one.
- Game data — your campaign save (progress, authored strategies, settings), your multiplayer army/loadout, your matchmaking rating (MMR), and a history of matches and rewards. This is stored on our server, keyed to your Firebase uid, and is the source of truth for your account once you are signed in.
We do not ask for or store payment information; the Game is free.
2.3 Technical and operational data
Our hosting provider and our server may log standard technical data — IP address, request timestamps, and user-agent — for security, abuse prevention, and operating the service. We keep an internal audit log of security-relevant account events (e.g., sign-in, save, reward grants) for the same purposes.
2.4 Usage statistics and error reports
To see how the Game is played and where it breaks, it sends events to Bitlitic Ops, our own analytics system: a self-hosted copy of Umami at analytics.ops.bitlitic.com, which Bitlitic runs itself on a virtual server rented from Hostinger in Boston, USA. It receives:
- the screens you open (for example the map, the Strategy Lab or a battle);
- game events: accepting these terms, starting a campaign and the faction you picked, starting and finishing a battle (campaign or multiplayer, won or lost, your faction, the world number and how many territories you hold), clearing a world, starting a new run, creating or upgrading a strategy, recruiting a unit, buying a Doctrine unlock, finishing or skipping the tutorial, your ad-consent choice (ads allowed or not, personalized or not), claiming an ad reward, and signing up, logging in or linking an account (the sign-in method only);
- with each event, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, the site that linked you here, and an approximate location (country, region and city) worked out from your IP address.
It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It does not store your IP address — visits are grouped using a hash that changes every month — and it receives no account id, no email, no display name and nothing you type.
If the Game hits an unexpected error, it sends an error report to our own error-reporting server (otel.ops.bitlitic.com, on the same Hostinger server in Boston): the error message and technical trace, and the Game version. Emails, sign-in tokens and web-address parameters are removed before it is sent.
Bitlitic Ops data is not sold or shared with third parties, and is not used for advertising or to follow you across other sites.
3. How we use data, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Data used | Lawful basis (GDPR / UK GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Create and operate your account | email, uid, auth metadata | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Cloud-save and sync your progress | game data | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Matchmaking, leaderboards, multiplayer | loadout, MMR, display name | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Security, anti-cheat, abuse prevention | technical data, audit log | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Understand how the Game is played and fix errors | usage statistics, error reports (§2.4) | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Show and validate ads | see §5 | Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) / legitimate interests |
| Comply with law | as required | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
We do not sell your account or game data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles. Advertising data is handled by the ad network as described in §5.
4. Processors and third parties we share data with
- Google Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — our authentication processor. When you sign in, Google handles the sign-in flow and issues your uid and an identity token. Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- Hostinger — hosts the Bitlitic Ops server (Boston, USA) that stores the usage statistics and error reports in §2.4. Hostinger only provides the server; Bitlitic runs the software on it.
- Our hosting provider (VPS) — stores the Postgres database that holds your account and game data on servers located in the United States, and may log technical data as in §2.3.
- The advertising network (see §5).
We disclose data to others only where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users and the service.
International transfers. Account and game data, and the usage statistics and error reports in §2.4, are stored and processed on servers located in the United States. If you access the Game from the EU, the UK, or another region, your personal data is transferred to and processed in the United States; where such a transfer requires a safeguard, we rely on an appropriate mechanism such as the Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. Advertising and your ad choices
The Game and our website show ads to keep the Game free. Ads are served through Google AdSense (including Google's H5 Games Ads for ads shown between battles), the ad network. We may also show optional rewarded video ads.
- When the ad code loads. Google's ad code (the AdSense script) loads on every page of shapefront.net, including the game page before you make an in-game ad choice and our information pages (such as How to Play and the FAQ). Google may place display ads on those pages and may read and set cookies when the code loads. Ads inside the Game (ads between battles and rewarded videos) are only requested after you make the in-game ad choice below.
- Advertising cookies. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info (US) or www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- EEA, UK and Switzerland. Visitors from these regions are shown Google's consent message (a Google-certified consent management platform) and can accept, reject or manage consent for advertising cookies and personalized ads before Google uses them.
- Personalized vs. non-personalized. Before any in-Game ad is requested, we ask you to choose between personalized ads (which use data such as cookies/device identifiers to tailor ads to you) and non-personalized ads (which are not tailored using such data, though they may use coarse, non-identifying signals like approximate location for frequency capping and legal compliance). You can change this any time in Settings → Ad preferences.
- CCPA/CPRA "Do Not Sell or Share." California residents (and residents of states with similar laws) can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising via Settings → Ad preferences → "Do Not Sell/Share My Info." Choosing this forces non-personalized ads and records a US-privacy opt-out signal.
The ad network is an independent controller of the advertising data it collects; see the Google Privacy & Terms and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
6. Retention and your right to erasure
- Account and game data are retained for as long as your account exists.
- You can delete your account at any time by emailing support@bitlitic.com from the email address on your account. We verify the request and delete the account within 30 days. Deletion removes your account record and the associated game data (save blob, loadout, strategies, ratings) by cascade, and marks the account erased. After deletion, your data cannot be recovered.
- Database backups that contain your data are rotated and purged within 30 days, so deleted data ages out of backups within that window.
- Audit-log and technical-log entries are retained for approximately 90 days (longer only where specifically needed for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance) and are then deleted or anonymized.
- Usage statistics (§2.4) are kept for 14 months and then deleted automatically. Error reports are deleted after 30 days. Because they are not linked to an account or to your IP address, we cannot find or delete one person's statistics on request; you can object to this processing by emailing us (§11).
- Local single-player data is deleted by clearing your browser's site data; it is never on our servers.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, to withdraw consent (e.g., for ads), and — under CCPA/CPRA — to opt out of sale/sharing and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
- You can change your ad-consent choices directly in the Game (§5). To delete your account, email us (§6).
- For any other request, contact support@bitlitic.com. We may need to verify your identity (e.g., that you control the account email) before acting.
- EU/UK residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
8. Children's privacy (COPPA and similar)
The Game is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction, e.g., 16 in parts of the EU), and we do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect personal information from, children under that age. Account creation, multiplayer, and ads are intended for users old enough to consent under applicable law. If you believe a child has created an account or provided us personal information, contact support@bitlitic.com and we will delete it. Where required, we apply measures such as restricting personalized ads for users we know to be children.
9. Data security
Account and game data are transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on our hosting provider under access controls. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase. No system is perfectly secure; please keep your browser and sign-in account secure on your end.
10. Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle data, we will update this policy, change
the "Last updated" date and version, archive the prior version in
legal/archive/, and re-open the in-app consent gate so you can review and
re-accept.
